There is something quite simple about a salt rock night light. It is a piece of natural Himalayan salt with a light inside, so most of the character comes from the salt itself rather than from a fancy design.

The salt comes from Pakistan and the colour can vary quite a bit.

One lamp might be mostly pale pink while another has much stronger orange running through it. Darker lines, cloudy patches and small marks can also show in the rock. You should expect those differences rather than every lamp looking exactly like the photos.

Switch the light on and the colour changes again.

The pink salt takes on more of an orange tone as the light comes through it. Some areas can look brighter than others, especially where the salt is thinner. Thicker sections normally stay a little darker.

That uneven look is part of the lamp rather than something being wrong with it.

You could keep one beside the bed if you only want a smaller light in the room. It can also sit on a shelf or side table where the natural rock is still on show during the day.

Salt lamps come in all sorts of shapes now, but the rock-style ones keep more of the uneven surface and outline of the original salt.

They are best kept indoors somewhere dry. Avoid putting the lamp close to an open window, sink or anywhere it could regularly get damp.
