Small Himalayan Salt Lamps for the Home

If you only have little space, a smaller salt lamp is probably the easier option.

The colour can be quite different from one lamp to another. Some are pale pink while others have more orange or darker areas through the salt.

Once the lamp is on, the colour tends to look warmer.

The salt comes from Pakistan and every piece has its own shape and markings. So the lamp you receive may look a little different from the one in the photos.

Different Shapes and Styles

Our smaller salt lamps come in several shapes and designs.

You can choose one that keeps more of the rough natural salt look or go for something that has been cut into a particular shape, such as an angel.

The colour and markings will vary from lamp to lamp.

Even two lamps from the same range may have slightly different edges or darker areas in the salt.

That is normal with natural Himalayan salt.

Bulbs and Light

A lot of our mains-powered salt lamps use an E14 pygmy bulb.

The bulb sits inside the salt and the light comes through the rock around it.

It will not always look the same all the way round. Thicker parts of the salt can stay darker while thinner areas let more light through.

The bulb and fitting can vary between lamps. Check the individual listing if you need to know which one it uses.

Why Choose a Smaller Salt Lamp?

The obvious reason is the size.

A small lamp is easier to fit on a desk or narrow shelf where a bigger one would be too heavy or just take up too much room.

They are easier to move around too if you decide you want it somewhere else.

You will normally get less light from a smaller lamp than a large one. That makes it useful when you only want a bit of extra light in the room.

They also tend to cost less than the bigger sizes.

If you want one for a desk, then check the connection first. Some use USB while others come with a normal UK plug.

UK Plug or USB

Not every small salt lamp connects in the same way.

Some have a standard UK plug. Others use USB.

It is worth checking the product page before ordering so you know which one you are getting.

Where Can You Put a Small Salt Lamp?

A small salt lamp is fairly easy to find a place for.

You could put one on a bedside table or on a shelf. A desk can work well too if you do not want something that takes up loads of room.

They also fit nicely on smaller cabinets or side tables where a bigger lamp might feel a bit much.

Just make sure the lamp is sitting somewhere flat and steady. It is also worth thinking about where the cable will go before you decide on the spot.

Small Salt Lamps as Gifts

A smaller salt lamp can be a handy gift because it is easier to find a place for than one of the really big ones.

You do not need a huge table or floor space for it.

If you are buying one for someone else, then have a look at the shape and size first. Some people may prefer the rough natural style while others might like one that has been cut into a particular shape.

It is also worth checking what comes with the lamp. Some use a UK plug while others may use USB.

The colour will still vary from the photos because of the natural salt.

How Long Is the Cable?

The cable length can vary from one lamp to another.

If you already know where you want the lamp to go, then have a quick look at where the nearest socket is.

You do not want to get the lamp home and find the cable will not reach.

It is also better if the cable can run neatly behind a desk or piece of furniture rather than being stretched across the floor.

The individual product page should give you a better idea of the connection that comes with that lamp.

Can You Put One on a Bookshelf?

A small salt lamp can work on a bookshelf if there is enough room for it.

Check the depth of the shelf as well as the height. Some lamps are wider at the base than they first look in the photos.

You will also need a little space behind or beside the lamp for the cable.

I would not squeeze it tightly between books or other things on the shelf.

Give it enough room so you can reach the switch and move the lamp without knocking everything around it.

Do Small Salt Lamps Have a Dimmer Switch?

Some do and some don't.

You may get a simple switch on the cable or a dimmer that lets you turn the brightness up and down.

It depends on the lamp.

If there is a dimmer, it will normally be shown in the photos or mentioned on the page.
